He will likely decline to explain his actions or reasoning to the people around him. Alternatively, he might make up a reason to test what he can get away with. His typically blunt affect makes it difficult to tell when he is telling the truth, lying, and/or taking the piss.

*This alignment does not preclude Ami from getting into romantic and/or sexual relationships.

Hooks

Give me the edge of a blade and a time and a place

  • He Who Fights Monsters: How does your character react to those who dirty their hands in the name of safety for all?

  • I'm a Healer, But...: Your character is in need of aid. Will they rely on Ami to heal them, even if they really deserve a few more broken bones?

  • The Salt and the Salted: Ami will (sometimes) give his birthplace as Tural. Has your character visited that distant continent, or are they curious about it? Or perhaps they are Turali as well!

Biography

Between What It Is and Once Was

Born around 1411 6AE in a remote and nomadic Shetona community, the man now known as Amirariah Ramadi is old enough to remember Ketenramm's arrival in Tural, and claims to have been aboard the first ship that departed Tuliyollal for Eorzea. After some time spent wandering, his talents in both dual-bladed combat and healing magicks were noticed by the Hearers of Gridania, who were the first to take Amirariah in under an extended contract to handle matters in the Twelveswood too scandalous to be viewed as official actions approved by their esteemed organization.Ami began to specialize in the monitoring and elimination of major threats to the star; specifically, Spoken individuals who gained threatening amounts of power via the study of forbidden magicks. His longest assignment was an Elezen boy whose dense umbral aether lent him a disturbing propensity toward dark magicks. Ami was assigned as the boy's handler -- and reported to both Stillglade Fane and the Arrzaneth Ossuary as his subject grew up and expanded his magickal skills.Rather than eliminate his subject whenever he proved a possible danger, Ami opposed his bosses' instructions and intervened each time the budding archmage became a danger to others, or to himself. Ami's better instincts and perseverance paid off over time. After nearly thirty years of second-guessing himself, of nearly coming to blows with an archmage now more powerful than him by a few orders of magnitude, of reassuring his superiors that his judgment was correct, Ami won out; the archmage retired from active practice to lead a simpler life.Although Ami has continued to accept smaller assignments in defense of the Twelveswood and the star, he has found himself with far more time on his hands since his long contract ended... and he has also been much more bored. He has been seeking out any opportunity to do something different while he figures out what he wants to make of his life after stepping out of the archmage's shadow.

Skills and Abilities

For I have known the sorrow of a thousand knives

Amirariah is trained in a variety of weapon- and magick-based disciplines. This list is in order of his proficiency, starting with his best job.

Dual Swords (Viper and Ninja)

While the Viper school has seen a rise in popularity, especially amongst Eorzean visitors to Tural, Ami has long been trained in his village's version of the job, as well as with sai, which are a favored weapon for duelling amongst his community. Both small-blade pairs rely on speed and stealth to take down their prey.

Sage

As his first stop outside of Tural was Old Sharlayan, Amirariah had the opportunity to make connections amongst the scholars there. He eventually picked up the nouliths as his primary healing weapons, finding their diagnostic utilities and other miscellaneous technologies helpful alongside their ease of transport.

Conjurer

After some years of travel across Eorzea, Amirariah settled in the Central Shroud. The Twelveswood was in a state of upheaval at the time, and Amirariah's assistance in stabilizing the region marked him as tolerable to the Elementals, thus avoiding the greenwrath. He took up conjury, as the magick most suitable for quelling the Twelveswood's poisons; though despite his excellence in it, the Hearers have never allowed him to learn white magick.

Astrologian

While working in Coerthas, Ami also learned the Ishgardian version of astrology, which he was able to compare with the similar Sharlayan school. He is also amused by the aspect of using a deck of cards that connects to constellations, as this is not far removed from some of his Turali village's practices. He has not kept up with his studies well recently.

Dancer

While venturing East, Ami picked up the Thavnairian art of dancing, mostly because he needed a non-magickal ranged weaponset for his work. Likewise, he did not study the job for long enough to surpass an intermediate level of familiarity.

Other Magicks

Amirariah has a working knowledge of several magick systems, including: summoning, black magick, void magick, and red magick. He does not use these magicks often, but learned them in order to keep up with the sorts of targets he tends to be assigned.

OOC Notes

We search for good people, and we find them

Hi! I'm alecto. I'm a longtime writer and RPer. I love blending my own RL cultures into FFXIV lore. Among other projects, I run an annual Mardi Gras celebration.I'm 30+ and live in the Central time zone in the US.The major thing to know about me is that consent is important to me. I check in regardless of "breaking immersion" or "ruining the vibe." If you'd rather not write with someone who will pause RP for this, that's alright.I kindly ask that you respect the following guidelines for RPing with me:- Keep IC and OOC separate. I am not my character, and he is not me. Don't use IC to solve OOC problems, or vice versa.
- Communicate. I try my best to read people's needs and intentions, but I'm not perfect. Just talk freely.
- Respect consent. Everyone, including me and including you, should be able to consent or decline anything, and at any time.
- Black lives matter, and trans rights are human rights. I don't RP with bigots.

AGENT INFORMATION
DESIGNATION: JOY
NAME AT BIRTH: Kuankuara
ALTERNATIVE NAMES: Mambi, Amirariah Ramadi
RANK: Shetona nobility; "he who dances on a knife's edge"
ORIGIN: THE NEW WORLD
AGE: around 150
RACE: Viera/"Shetona"
GENDER: Male
PREDILECTIONS: Thrill-seeking, debate, solitude
VICES: None observed
TARGETABLE WEAKNESSES: Avoidant personality, grandiose sense of self, pride in physical appearance/condition, a number of offspring
BACKGROUND:
Subject was born in the New World as part of a Viera clan, of which he was the chieftainess's firstborn son. In his original interview, he claimed to have fathered around thirty (30) children, as this was one of his responsibilities given his rank in the clan. He was also the primary protector of the village, and trained in stealth and light blades. Dissatisfied with his lot in life, he departed the New World and travelled before eventually settling in the Twelveswood.
Despite being unable to understand them, he appears to have built a relationship with the elementals, who speak of him generally with approval. They refer to him as what can best be translated as "a dance like the light that glints off of a knife's sharp edge." One of his earliest tasks included assisting with sealing Toto-Rak, at which time the Seedseer Council took him into their confidence.Since then, Joy has undertaken no fewer than a hundred missions for Stillglade Fane, the Eorzean Alliance, and allied organizations. His expertise in magicks remains unmatched -- as does the count of mages who have fallen by his blades.OVERSIGHT:Where Joy does not excel is in personality and emotional judgment. He relies overmuch on logic and dismisses the feelings of others; he displays an incapacity to understand decisions made based on intuition or gut instinct, even when they prove correct. While Joy is an excellent study of the societies he has been sent to observe, including such far-flung destinations as Garlemald and Hingashi, the gaps in his perception appear when tasked with determining why certain behaviors or traditions have developed among these cultures. When theories on the same are offered back to him using scientific terminology, he seems better able to grasp them, but no practical improvement becomes evident beyond that.ANALYSIS AND CONCLUSIONS:Joy has been observed displaying concerning behaviors at times, including accusing a grieving mother of being a poor guardian, stabbing an illicit chocobo breeder, and very often challenging the Twelve's faithful on their beliefs simply to be combative. He should not be assigned to any mission that requires interviewing or consoling common folk.At times, Joy is so blunt and aloof in his approach that he seems borderline sociopathic. There is, however, some indication that these behaviors may serve a purpose, namely shielding Joy from developing attachments to others. Supervisors and peers are advised to respect this preference, even be it to their dismay. When this guidance is followed as offered, Joy proves an effective, dedicated, and even enthusiastic asset. There is one like him in Eorzea -- for better or for worse.
